Frequently Asked Questions: Labor stimulation massage

Please reach us at cypresspregnancymasage@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A labor stimulation massage is a specialized form of massage therapy aimed at encouraging the onset of labor in pregnant women who are near or past their due date. This type of massage uses specific techniques and pressure points that are believed to help stimulate uterine contractions and promote cervical ripening, potentially helping to initiate labor naturally.

  •  Acupressure & Essential Oils: Certain pressure points, such as those on the ankles, hands, and lower back, are believed to be connected to the uterus and reproductive organs. We apply pressure on these points with the help of a contraindicated essential oil blend.

  • Relaxation Techniques: The massage helps the expectant mother relax, which can be beneficial as stress and tension may delay the onset of labor. Techniques like deep tissue massage on the back and shoulders can ease tension and promote relaxation.
  • Hip and Pelvic Area Massage: Targeted massaging of the hips and pelvic area can help loosen tight muscles and increase blood flow, which may assist in preparing the body for labor.

We typically schedule these sessions after 39 weeks. The ideal scenario would be when you are already having Braxton Hicks, which is a tightening of your stomach or some type of dilation.

While labor stimulation massage may help some women, it is not guaranteed to promote labor in every case. We have seen moms go into labor the next day or within more than a week. The relaxation and anxiety reduction benefits alone can be incredibly valuable, especially during the final stages of pregnancy when stress levels can be high. Even if the massage doesn't directly induce labor, helping the mother-to-be feel more at ease is a significant positive outcome.

Take a nap, go for a walk and have sex (I know its the last thing on your mind, sorry)
